31 Great Western Kitchens

Santa Fe, New Mexico
A Santa Fe kitchen by Lake-Flato Architects (www.lakeflato.com) and designer Sarah Dunning (214-750-9951) features walnut cabinetry by Baglione Custom Woodwork (505-988-7326), stainless-steel bar chairs and countertops, and a concrete island. The refrigerator is from Sub-Zero (www.subzero.com) and the range hood is by Miele (www.miele.com). Fixtures by Grohe (www.groheamerica.com).

Southern Texas
The kitchen in a Spanish-style house by architect Michael Imber (www.michaelgimber.com) is enlivened by Mexican tiles. The iron pot rack is from Galeria San Ysidro (www.galeriasanysidro.com); the range is by FiveStar (www.fivestarrange.com).

Telluride, Colorado
“Using clerestories and skylights, the kitchen maximizes space and natural light,” says architect James Hardy (www.jharchitect.com). “Stone was brought into the space to tie the inside to the outside.” The chandelier and lighting fixtures are from Aspen Lighting Designs (970-245-8455). The cabinetry is by Custom Woodworking (970-533-7037), the range is by Thermador (www.thermador.com) and the island sink is by Kohler (www.kohler.com).

Calgary, Canada
Designer Paul Lavoie (www.paullavoieinteriordesign.com) and architect Dan Jenkins (www.jenkinsarchitecture.net) used dark-stained fir to unify the open kitchen and dining area with the rest of the living spaces. Leather-covered Holly Hunt chairs (www.hollyhunt.com) surround the ash dining table. Faucet from Grohe (www.groheamerica.com) and refrigerator from Sub-Zero (www.subzero.com).

Austin, Texas
“I wanted the materials to be humble but the outcome to be elegant,” says the owner of a kitchen by architect Mell Lawrence (www.architecturalpolka.com). Large windows flood the room with light, and stainless-steel appliances play off the limestone walls. The countertops are custom, as is the steel hood, which hangs above a Dacor stove (www.dacor.com). Dishwasher drawers by Fisher & Paykel (www.fisherpaykel.com); sink faucet and pot filler from Chicago Faucets (www.chicagofaucets.com).

Las Vegas, Nevada
Designer Todd-Avery Lenahan (www.abalv.com) outfitted his own kitchen with Archetype pendants by Boyd Lighting (www.boydlighting.com) and cabinetry from Downsview (www.downsviewkitchens.com). The ovens are from Wolf (www.wolfappliance.com), and the cooktop and downdraft are from Viking (www.vikingrange.com). The sink fixtures are from Kohler (www.kohler.com). Sub-Zero refrigerator (www.subzero.com).

Aspen, Colorado
Designer Ann Hyde chose cherrywood for her kitchen cabinetry and Hawaiian koa wood for the countertops. Metal lamps from Paul Ferrante (www.paulferrante.com) hang above the island. The stovetop is by Viking (www.vikingrange.com), and the oven is by KitchenAid (www.kitchenaid.com).

Carmel Valley, California
“Simple, honest materials such as copper tiles, granadilla wood and soapstone were used in the kitchen,” says designer Barbara Scavullo (www.scavullodesign.com). The Adirondack-style stools are from Rituals (www.ritualsdecor.com), and the sink fittings are from Waterworks (www.waterworks.com). A Viking range (www.vikingrange.com) and a custom hanging light from Paul Ferrante (www.paulferrante.com) complete the space.
