31 Great Western Kitchens

Scottsdale, Arizona
“Using stainless-steel appliances would eat up space visually,” says designer David Michael Miller. “I used enamel jackets on the appliances to make them seem more passive.” Custom cabinets, with leaded glass in the cupboard doors, and Mexican concrete tiles on the backsplash anchor the bright space. A Rohl farmhouse sink (www.rohlhome.com) is set in the concrete countertop from Buddy Rhodes Studio (www.buddyrhodes.com). The range is from Viking (www.vikingrange.com), and the tile is by Craftsman Court Ceramics (408-970-6611).

Cody, Wyoming
Travertine floors and marble countertops from Rocky Mountain Granite and Marble (www.rockymountaingranite.com) distinguish a kitchen by Rogers Marvel Architects (www.rogersmarvel.com). The sink is from Soho Corp (www.sohocorp1.com), and the dishwasher is by Miele (www.miele.com). The ceiling lamps and pot rack are from Ann Morris Antiques (212-755-3308). A Pella door leads outside (www.pella.com).

Aspen, Colorado
Custom Italian pendants by VG New Trend (www.vaninnewtrend.com) hang over a dining table and chairs from Henry Beguelin (www.henrybeguelin.com) in a sleek kitchen by Studio B Architects (www.studiobarchitects.net).

Santa Barbara County, California
Architect Brian Tichenor (310-358-8444) and designer Madeline Stuart (www.madelinestuart.com) collaborated on a country kitchen. A chandelier from Lighting by Hammerworks (www.hammerworks.com) hangs above an Arts and Crafts-style table that Stuart customized to complement circa 1910 oak-and-leather chairs from West World Imports (www.westworldimports.com). A Wolf cooktop (www.wolfappliance.com) and a Viking range, hood and ovens (www.vikingrange.com) outfit the space. Pendants from Rejuvenation (www.rejuvenation.com).

Santa Fe, New Mexico
Designer Susan Trowbridge (505-995-8214) employed vigas and Saltillo tiles throughout the house to preserve the sense of traditional New Mexico architecture, but the limestone and travertine countertops strike a modern note. The custom island was fabricated by Adam Eisman Woodwork and Design (www.woodworkanddesign.com); the cooktop is from Thermador (www.thermador.com), and the dishwasher is by Asko (www.askousa.com). The sink hardware is from Santa Fe by Design (www.santafebydesign.com).

Aspen, Colorado
Fir ceilings, marble countertops and custom cabinetry with maple veneer define a kitchen by architect Harry Teague (www.harryteaguearchitects.com). The range, heating drawer and faucet are from Thermador (www.thermador.com). The bar chairs are by Emeco (www.emeco.com).

Los Angeles
“The kitchen was tripled in size to create a practical space,” says architect Odom Stamps (www.stampsandstamps.com) of a Spanish Colonial-style house. An early-nineteenth-century German oak table is used as an island, while fabric conceals the dishwasher. A Paul Ferrante chandelier (www.paulferrante.com), Ann Sacks tile (www.annsacks.com), a sink from Vermont Soapstone (www.vermontsoapstone.com) and a Viking range (www.vikingrange.com) complete the space.
